Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What colours can I have on your panels?

The absorption panels must follow the 12 colours shown in the catalogue which are identified by the respective RAL code.

As for the diffusion panels, they can also be in those 12 colours or, for private projects, any other RAL colour outside the catalogue can be chosen.

Are acoustic panels used to insulate a space acoustically?

No, acoustic panels are used for acoustic treatment by correcting and balancing acoustics, thus improving sound perceptibility.

However, the application of acoustic panels provides an acoustic control and an effective reduction of airborne noise, thus also contributing for insulation.

What is the difference between acoustic treatment and insulation?

Acoustic treatment is meant to improve space acoustics by correcting acoustic deficiencies and customising the characteristics of each room according to its needs. Insulation, as the word itself suggests, is only meant to insulate one space from the other in terms of noise.

What is the highest "dB" value that can come from a space in order not to bother anyone?

It's all relative, we have to take into account the type of noise emitting source and the proximity between emitter and receiver. The bothersome noise factor also varies from one geographical area to another.

For the most silent places with the least tolerant legislation, noise allowed in the permeability of walls or insulation is 3dB above environmental noise.

However, if the idea is to make music or play an instrument inside an apartment, you should know that this is not allowed. You'll have to find a compromising solution and count on your neighbour's understanding.

What value of reverberation time should my space ideally have?

It varies, since each space is unique due to its size, shape and materials that have been applied in it, thus being possible to determine reverberation time. More important than to have the average of the adequate "RT", is to have the values within that average balanced in 1/3 octaves intervals.

These values should not differ more than +/- 20% in order to have a balanced time from frequency to frequency.

May I install the panels wherever I want?

No. In order to take full advantage of the panels, some rules need to be followed.

Let's say that there are standard ways to apply our panels depending on the room in question.

You may consult our products to help you understand the products' installation types, or ask us for our opinion using our contact form.

What is the advantage of installing panels in my business premises (ex.: a restaurant)?

Some premises, due to its architectural and decorating features, generate an acoustically unpleasant environment with very high levels of noise and reverberation.

The panels' role is to reduce the existing reverberation time in the room, thus decreasing the airborne noise and providing more comfort to the users.

What is acoustic reverberation?

Reverberation is an acoustic effect that takes place when the acoustic energy generated from a noise emitting source is sent back by the surfaces (floor, walls and ceiling).

It occurs when the sound is reflected on those several surfaces and is then heard with the referred "reverb" effect.

In most cases, the reverberation time should ideally be reduced, so that the "reverb" effect is not perceived by the receiver.

However, there are places where some reverberation must be added to help propagate the sound, such as in auditoriums.

In what kind of spaces should I install the panels?

In any place where good acoustics are required.

JOCAVI's range of products enables acoustic solutions for various types of rooms.

What is the ideal acoustic panel for my space?

We first need to know what your space is like, so that we may be able to advise you.

Our specialized technicians carry out tests on the spot (in situ) or reproduce the space virtually and are thus able to advise you what is best for your specific case.

Get in touch with us using our contact form.

If a technician is not able to come to my space, can anything be done at a distance?

Yes. Just send us as much information as possible. Our site has a consultancy form that you can just fill in and send it together with the layout plans and dimensional cuttings, preferably in digital format (dwg), as well as pictures of the space, a brief summary of the materials it is made of and an explanation of what you intend to do in that space. We can take it from there.

May I hide the panels inside the false ceiling or behind something on the walls?

No. In order for the panels to reach the desired acoustic effect, they have to face the existing surfaces, at the very most they can be built-in.

For example, a MELLOWALLTRAP works perfectly in front of a false ceiling, whereas diffusion panels lose their efficiency even if they are covered with a fine piece of cloth.

What is the difference between an absorption panel and a diffusion panel?

An absorption panel, as its name suggests, is meant to absorb. It dissipates the acoustic energy inside it and only reflects a small amount.

The diffusion panels fragment and diffuse that energy by scattering it.

In order to reduce and control reverberation in rooms, we use absorbers or a combination of absorber/diffuser, since diffusers also fragment the sound in a controlled way.

In other cases, when a reverberation increase is intended, diffusers are then used to increase the reverberation time.
